"a lighthouse in the wilderness"

For the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Christ on Lost River, everything began in December 31, 1841 as a group of dedicated Christians met in the Maxwell School to worship the Almighty God. These thirty-three faithful Baptists had requested help from various local congregations to organize into a church. And so a church was formed and later adopted its first church covenant a year later on December 31, 1842.

175 years of god's faithfulness

On September 23-24, the year 2017, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church publicly celebrated 175 years of faithful ministry. Many people who grew up in the church as children and teenagers returned to Mount Pleasant's little piece of Orange County, Indiana to share in the church's anniversary celebration. On Saturday, September 23rd, we gathered outside to eat, fellowship, and reminisce. A local bluegrass band played in the background as many reconnected.

On Sunday, September 24th, we packed the church to worship the God of faithfulness and thank Him for sustaining the church for nearly two centuries. God has been faithful through many transitional periods such as the introduction of the automobile, indoor plumbing, readily available electricity, and the telephone. God has sustained the church through two World Wars, the Great Depression, and the many theological traps that have come along the way. It was all God's doing!

the future

Our future as a church will be determined by our commitment to the Scriptures as the divine authority and rule for what we do and how we do it. The Gospel hasn't changed and neither will we when it comes to our biblical convictions. But what has changed is the way we can minister to an ever-increasing secular society. In a technological world, we are committed to delivering our message both through personal relationships as well as various technological mediums.

Community will be how we grow. One comes to faith personally but that faith is never to be lived out singularly. We aim to reach out much further than the physical walls of our church building through service and doing life together.
